What happens to some naive college students when a wizard is running your dungeons and dragons group, and you suddenly find its real? How fast can you grow up? Can you find out who you are in time to keep from being killed? do you learn enough of the milieu to be able to do what is necessary? Do you make good decisions, lead the group, and do what is right? Pretty good read, and well done story.

Good read. It kept me interested all the way through. Held up well considering how old these books are and this was the first time I read these so there wasn't a nostalgic factor to consider. If the story synopsis sounds interesting to you, I'd recommend reading these.
Received this with a couple of other books when I joined a sci-fi book club back in the early 80's. I have to say I couldn't put it down, Rosenberg did a terrific job combining so many elements together and making them work.
The only thing I wish was that more time was spent on the groups travel to the gate, heck I would love to see a book that's pre this adventure, one that revolved around the professor when he was originally on the other side before the Great Battle that created the wastes.
Anyway pick-up this if you want a good read.
I bought this book originally over 20 years ago. It became my son's favorite fantasy/adventure story...the book he returned to again and again whenever he needed something to occupy his mind. Sadly, the original was stolen recently and we were just thrilled to find it on ! Our replacement copy is in perfect shape and we are happy to have one of the best works of fiction from the 80's that we've ever known!
I just bought this for my nephew having been the hugest Guardians of the Flame fan growing up. Such good stories!
