The Darling Dahlias and the Eleven O'Clock Lady Susan Wittig Albert 2015425260623 Books
As one who reads only cozy mysteries and a lot of them, i would have to say that this is the finest series ever. Both historical and cozy, these stories of a group of Southern women in depression era Alabama brings a kind of historical depth to the genre that I do not find anywhere else. My only reservation about this newest book is that too much of the narrative is from the point of view of the male sheriff. I would prefer that the author had kept the focus on the many fascinating women characters such as Verna and Liz.Tags : The Darling Dahlias and the Eleven O'Clock Lady [Susan Wittig Albert] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <b> New York Times</i> bestselling author Susan Wittig Albert transports readers to the summer of 1934,Susan Wittig Albert,The Darling Dahlias and the Eleven O'Clock Lady,Berkley,0425260623,Alabama,Alabama;Fiction.,Detective and mystery fiction,Gardeners,Gardening,Mystery fiction,Nineteen thirties,Nineteen thirties;Fiction.,Women gardeners,Women gardeners;Fiction.,ALBERT, SUSAN W. - PROSE & CRITICISM,AMERICAN MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,FICTION Historical General,FICTION Mystery & Detective Amateur Sleuth,FICTION Mystery & Detective Historical,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,Fiction,Fiction - Historical,Fiction-Mystery & Detective,FictionLiterary,FictionMystery & Detective - Amateur Sleuth,FictionMystery & Detective - General,FictionMystery & Detective - Historical,FictionMystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,GENERAL,General Adult,Historical - General,Historical fiction,Monograph Series, any,Mystery & Detective - General,Mystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,Mystery fiction,MysterySuspense,Nineteen thirties,Nineteen thirties;Fiction.,United States,Women gardeners,Women gardeners;Fiction.,mystery books; historical mystery; historical; cozy mystery; cozy; victorian; women sleuths; murder; crime; crime books; murder mystery books; mystery series; detective novels; mystery; mystery thriller suspense; historical mysteries; mystery and thrillers; mystery and suspense; fiction; mysteries; fiction books; mysteries and thrillers; cozy mysteries women sleuths series; mystery novels; women sleuths mysteries; england; police; novels; historical mystery fiction; books fiction; historical mystery novels; books mystery, mystery;historical mystery;women sleuths;mystery books;police;historical mysteries;mystery thriller suspense;murder mystery books;mystery and thrillers;crime books;detective novels;mystery novels;novels;fiction books;fiction;mysteries;mysteries and thrillers;historical mystery fiction;books fiction;historical mystery novels;cozy mysteries women sleuths series;books mystery;mystery and suspense;women sleuths mysteries;victorian;historical;cozy;murder;cozy mystery;crime;england;mystery series,FICTION Historical General,FICTION Mystery & Detective Amateur Sleuth,FICTION Mystery & Detective Historical,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FictionLiterary,FictionMystery & Detective - Amateur Sleuth,FictionMystery & Detective - General,FictionMystery & Detective - Historical,FictionMystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,Historical - General,Mystery & Detective - General,Mystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,Fiction - Historical,American Mystery & Suspense Fiction,Fiction,MysterySuspense,Historical fiction
The Darling Dahlias and the Eleven O'Clock Lady Susan Wittig Albert 2015425260623 Books Reviews
I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but this is the best. I hope there will be more. I love the characters and the depression setting is well done and very interesting. The recipes are also very good. A winner from start to finish.
I've read all of these books so far. I love the characters and find it interesting to see them develop. It's just a good, down-home story without blood and gore. More ... more!!!!
Fun read with interesting tidbits about the time depression. I also learned a lot about the CCC which Roosevelt formed to give men and young boys with no job skills work, training, and a little discipline. $25 of the $30 they made each month was sent home to their family as well. The information is all tied up in a great mystery, so you get a two-fer.
As all ways Susan's books are the very best my money is very short I simply would not spend it on books that were not of good quality I love every thing she writes but China bails ID my favorite alto I do love my southern Lady's being born in Al and raised in Ga I can't help filling z me. Ship I was born in 1937 so I no some of what went on in the South at that time I was the youngest of nine so I've heard all the things the lady's talk about i rember the food rashing books the public vardend during the war and sharing the food he's I love them all I have been blessed with a love of books thank you for asking me for my review Inez Uhl From Ga
This is the 6th book in the Darling Dahlias series. It takes place in the summer of 1934 in Darling Alabama. Instead of writing a synopsis of the book I want to share what I like about this book and the series.
It is a favorite cozy mystery series of mine. It has a relaxed writing feel or style as the reader goes along with the characters in their lives in the 1930s. The books center around the characters of the Darling Dahlias Garden Club. The central characters in the other Dahlia books have been Liz Lacy and Verna Tidwell. While we catch up with their lives in this book, Buddy Norris who has been recently elected as sheriff has the mystery of the book centered around him and his solving of the crime. Buddy has a lot to prove as a new sheriff since he is young, and replacing a sheriff who died from a rattlesnake bite. Even though there was less writing about Liz and Verna, I found the mystery portion of this book to be one of the best in the Darling Dahlia series.
The book also gave more attention to Charlie Dickens who is the editor of the small town paper. The Dahlias who play a prominent role are Ophelia Snow, Myra May, Violet and Lucy. So what makes this series special to me. First of all it is the characters. I always feel when I read this series that if I lived in this location and time period, I would like to join their club and be friends with them.
The time period and location make this series special for me. The reader sees what the lives of the characters are like living through the Depression Years. They make the best of it through friendships and it is a just a part of life at that time. In this book, I could feel the oppressive summer heat and humidity as the storm approached.
As I mentioned, I always like the relaxed feel of this series. I sit back and am transported back to the 1930's to Darling Alabama with great story telling. I find that as a reader that I care about the characters and their lives. I am looking forward to the next Dahlia book to see what has transpired in their lives and what mysteries or adventures the Dahlias will find themselves involved with.
Return to Darling and see what those Dahlias are up to. This time there is a murder right up front. The local kind-of-bad girl is dead and it turns out that a lot of people could have had it in for her; she was that kind of girl. PLUS there is something a little fishy going on at the CCC camp. The Dahlias are all involved at the camp one way or another. You will be breathless as you find out who the villain really is--and you will cheer for those determined ladies who never give up. Come on down; Darling is a great place to visit!
a genius is mrs. wittig albert............have been following this series & have fallen in love with it.........with the eleven o'clock lady, i couldn't wait to get to the next page. i only took two breaks while reading it. mrs. albert is a clever lady, i wanted to see more of albert duffy & verna tidwell action & i also wanted to find out the story behind the plantation owner & her falling out with the town of darling. guess i will just have to wait until the next book comes out. i tell you, if mrs. albert would love to make the next book a whole lot longer, (like a few hundred pages....LOL) i wouldn't complain at all. excellent author & excellent style...............loved it!!!!!!!!
