In the fourteen volume Noble Dead Saga, the Hendees wrought a rich and detailed world that is both strange and familiar at the same time. And whether with the individual short story series, "Tales of the Noble Dead" or Ms. Hendee's "Mist Torn Witches" series, it is plain to see that they have only scratched the surface of the stories still waiting to be told. I'm sure other fans of the Noble Dead will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Love this new series from Barb Hendee, think it has a lot of potential. Starts off a bit confused by what certain lead characters are doing, but quickly escalates giving the back stories you were looking for.
This story was well-written and held my interest, but left too many mysteries and unanswered. Hope it's the start of a series.
Another riveting tale based in the world that Barb and JC have meticulously built via another series of books. Highly impressed with the authors ability to create such distinct characters who never waver from who they truly are, but just grow with the story. Looking forward to the next book!
Had I not read the entire Nobel Dead series first, I would have probably given this initial foray into the Dead Seeker's world a higher rating. I was expecting the same caliber of story as those, and it simply disappointed. Pace was simply too slow for me, although adequate enough to continue reading. The characterization was on par with a daily soap opera, and by that I mean as I read I kept thinking, "Oh come on, that's slow, witless thinking on the part of the main characters!" When the next book of the series is released, I plan on purchasing and reading, in the hopes that it will resolve some of my issues. I love these authors, and have read everything they've written in this genre, and greatly enjoyed the novels. Again, past reading pleasure has biased my expectations.
Though I greatly enjoyed the previous series, the Noble Dead Saga, I was ambivalent over it's conclusion and thus a little hesitant to invest into another series from these authors. But despite that I picked the Dead Seekers and, so far, I have not been disappointed.

The cast is all new but the locales are familiar, and while many other worldbuilding details will be recognized by fans, it's great to see the setting expand upon ghosts, an aspect that was only briefly touched on in the Noble Dead. The Hendees as always do an excellent job of creating a living world, especially with their uncommonly detailed focus on language and how it affects people even within a small region. The writing is as suspenseful as ever, the characters are intriguing and their relationship has a slow but believable progression, and big mysteries are presented with answers I expect will be coming in future installments. Definitely a setup to a larger series, but one that had me gripped all the way to the end. I look forward to more and have my fingers crossed for a satisfying conclusion.
The Hendees are among my favorite authors. I have enjoyed many of their works, and this one is no exception. The story has compelling characters, for sure. Although, I do wonder if they could have been capitalized on a bit more. However, if there are ever subsequent novels, I think the fleshing out would come.

Overall, I enjoyed the concept of this story. If I am perfectly honest, I think the execution could have been a bit tighter for their skill level as authors, but, again, I believe this was meant to be an 'introductory' book. So, I'm hoping more will follow so I can get to know these characters and their secrets a bit more.
I have read the entire Hendee series of the Noble Dead three times, and so when I saw this was a new story in the same universe as the Noble Dead, I was anxious to see if the new characters would measure up to my old favorites. It took me awhile to settle into the story, but I soon found myself warming to the new characters. I enjoyed the story, but when I finished the book, (like in all of Barb and J.C. Hendee's collaborations) I just wanted more! I am looking forward to new books in this new series, connecting with the new characters and learning all about them. Thank you, Hendees, for all your wonderful work. I'm sure I will love this series as much as I have the Noble Dead.
