Bad Dad eBook Dave Lieber

When I first heard the story, I'm sorry to say, I laughed. It sounded like something I would have done to my children in the 50's when things like that were acceptable. When I started reading the book I was sorry that I laughed. What terrible pain and worry that normal, loving family had to endure. I love Dave Lieber's books!!! I love to read at night (it helps me calm down so I can go to sleep)so I can't read anything Dave writes at bedtime because his books have the opposite effect, they make me laugh and cry and think and I can't put them down. This is a great book. I couldn't put it down either, so I have a hard copy, it is also on my kindle, and on my iPhone.

Bad Dad eBook Dave Lieber Reviews

I neglected my own work for a few days because every spare minute I had was spent reading the nightmare of Dave Lieber's 10 minutes of what every parent faces an impulsive interaction with a child that is essentially safe but open to question, either by him/herself or by others. I couldn't put it down. I found myself fired up, tense, anxious, and nearly paranoid for the author as he describes the Texas town in which he lives and works as the "Watchdog" of local politics and town government, only to find himself on the other side of scrutiny. An excellent read in which the reader feels the tougher moments of parenting - those which cause us to examine ourselves and how we raise our kids.
Every parent should read this book. What could possibly go wrong when you're a loving, engaged, conscientious parent? Lots.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. But what if that village is rather provincial, very opinionated, and doesn't like your politics? And you're a public figure.

It's a sad statement about our society when non-vetted information can cause such undeserved grief. This is a riveting, beautifully written story, interspersed with Dave's newspaper columns revealing the machine he was up against. You will not be able to put this book down.

There are lessons in this book. Just when you think you've got it all right, life happens.
Bad Dad is an insightful and sincere story of how an act of bad judgment can almost destroy one's life, reputation and even threaten to have a child taken away from his parents. Lieber weaves together his work as a Watchdog columnist, which often puts him at odds with the police, and how the "belligerent" gene within himself and his son led to a harmless but thoughtless episode that catapulted his family into a legal labyrinth. Finally, a book that talks about legal "overcharging" and what's it's like to be forced to endure a terrifying and expensive experience. Lieber takes full responsibility for his actions, and I think there are many parents who have made mistakes, were netted unnecessarily into the legal system, and are too ashamed to talk about it. Lieber gives them a voice, too. The writing is compelling and I couldn't put it down.
Disclaimer I've known David Lieber since Dave was the age his son Austin is today. The good news, however, is that anyone is likely to find Bad Dad to be a good read.

On its face, Bad Dad is the story of the ripples cast by 10 minutes of bad interaction between a good dad (the author) and his son (Austin, the kid with the Rangers shirt on the cover). In my view, however, the subplots were as fascinating as the core story. Dave brings the distinctive voice of the Yankee Cowboy to bear on topics including

* What happens when a journalist finds himself at the center of a story centered in a town he's written about for years;

* How an incident in which an 11 year old was told to walk ten minutes (rather than be driven) home--and in fact arrived home safely-- could become the subject of inquiry by child protection and the local DA in a "zero tolerance" world;

* How the concept of "like father, like son" can become a source of apprehension as well as pride; and

* How one can find himself to be an outsider in a community one has lived and written in for over a decade.

Bad Dad makes clear Dave Lieber's no preacher, either in real life or between its covers. In its own way, however, it's a sermon on an Eleventh Commandment for the 21st Century "Live your life as if you're always on camera." In a nutshell, Bad Dad tells the story of how a good dad learned to live with what is now a fact of ordinary life. It may not belong on every Father's Day shopping list--but I'm sure it will be welcome on most.
This book is about a father-son relationship. Dave Lieber, a Fort Worth, Texas,columnist and his son, Austin, were having breakfast at McDonalds. Dave was drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. Austin, eleven years old at the time, wanted to leave and became angry at his father for taking so long. The two began to argue. Dave told his son to walk home if he was so bored and dissatified. Then Dave walked to his car, got in and drove off. Austin rushed out of the restaurant and attempted to stop his father. He missed. So Austin was left behind. However, Austin didn't have far to walk. Dave drove back to get the boy but he was gone. Seven men at the restaurant got angry at Dave and felt he was too strict.

Many people wrote to say they were punished in this way but things have changed so much. Children aren't safe walking alone as they were years ago. There seem to be so many child predators and it is better to be safe than sorry. But kids need to become independent and also they need to learn the commandment "Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother."

I like Dave Liebers' books. They are full go humor and good sense.
Great story, tells what can happen if we are not thinking all the time when we are dealing with chldren , evenour own. Dave did all of us a favor by being so open.
Dave is a great story teller and this was a fun read.
